Labour and Management Relations
Relations with employees and organised labour at Verref are governed by recognition agreements and conditions of employment by legislation which covers the prescribed minimum levels of compensation and benefits; trade union access and membership; the right to strike; mandatory compensation in the event of termination for operational reasons; employment equity practices; compensation for occupational illness or injury on duty; and the provision and financing of training programmes.
Verref endorses employees' rights to freedom of association and supports the process of collective bargaining. Verref currently has 7 recognition agreements in place with different unions at different operations. At our Main Works in Vereeniging we have BCAWU, Solidarity and NUM. At Rietfontein and Elgin Plants in Springs we have NUM and the mining operations has BCAWU at Hammanskraal and NUM at Marico Chrome in Zeerust.

These unions bargain on behalf of employees. Wages and conditions of employment are negotiated on a regular basis for each operation.
